Shane's Favourite TV Program

I could cop out and do another list, but I won't - this time I'll actually narrow it to two shows: current and all time. Let's go with current first, shall we?

Even though it looks like there is no surprise with my answer, it really was harder than it looked to decide this. There are several brilliant TV shows broadcast at the moment: LOST, Dexter, How I Met Your Mother, Sons Of Anarchy, Glee, Doctor Who, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia (and don't bother telling me I forgot Show X, Y or Z - I know there is a LOT more that I don't watch that other people do). So, my current favourite show is:

Glee: really, how could I not go nuts for it? It's got humour, singing, cute girls, Jane Lynch. So, really, how could I not love it? Sure some of the plots a little outlandish (but if I wanted 'realism', I'd watch Gossip Girl or The Hills) and the producers did occasionally get a little Autotune happy. But, overall, the show does live up to its name and gives me a sense of glee that I haven't had since Pushing Daisies. And really, how can you not love a show that allows Jane Lynch to go batshit nuts - and have the completely out of left field (or, if you will, Broadway) Matt Morrison to keep up with her at every single turn.

And now for the singing - I am mega pleased that the show has basically spread the goodness that is Lea Michelle's voice (and thankfully, the producers do spread the spotlight between all the singers on cast - not just Lea Michelle, but also the aforementioned Matt Morrison and also Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Amber Reilly, Mark Salling, Cory Monteith, Jenna Ushkowitz and even the ever wonder Jayma Mays).

The only way the show could be better is if Joss Whedon directed an episode.

So, Glee - favourite current show. But what is my favourite ALLTIME show:

Let's see, will it be something from Joss Whedon? Will it be MillenniuM? Will it be The Gruen Transfer (sweet jesus no - Wil Anderson can die in acid as far as I am concerned). Will it be some obscure Belgian cartoon teaching kids all about the body? Will it be MST3K? Will it be Invader Zim, Futurama, The Simpsons or any one of 100 other animated shows?

Or will it be a campy Japanese action/adventure show from the 70s which bought to life an ancient Chinese folk tale?

Yes, folks, my favourite TV show of all time is the legendary Monkey.

Again - let's go through the checklist:

Campy action? CHECK
Goofy special effects? CHECK
Flighting? CHECK
Crossdressing holy men (in as much as the boy priest, Tripitaka is played by a woman)? So much CHECK that all future redoes of the story cast a woman as Tripitaka
Demons, demons, demons? CHECK
Best opening spiel ever? CHECK

And now, the next part of the 30 Days of Shane:

Shane's Favourite Book:

While I have a huge list of favourite authors, of whom I will willingly spend mad duckets on; as well as a number of books that have instantly hit me like a truck, there is only one book that has effected me to such a degree that I have inked pat of it on my body (and will do again). That book is:

If you haven't read it, first - GO READ IT NOW.

And secondly, it's a book that I can't even hope to do justice in explaining. But I will try:

Dude finds a story written/assembled by a blind man dealing with a rather freakish house/gateway to hell and the effects it has on those who live within it, story effects guy to such an extent that it starts to drive him slightly batty.

See - I didn't even come close to doing it the remotest bit of justice. Lets just say that it is one of those books that is so masterfully put together and paced, that you WILL find yourself being twisted around its thumb long after you have closed it - or as I have done, got to the end and instantly started it again.
